Last week i happened to buy a 32GB kingston USB 2.0 Data traveller. The offer was so tempting that we couldnt resist from buying a 32GB USB.

We bought the USB from a guy we met in one of the top malls in cochin. The guy sold the USB for 1000rs to us. We later figured out from the shop keepers there that they bought the same for 500rs. They said a courier guy came and said he got a missaddressed courier and he want to sell off the consignment. A little bit of bargain and everypeople ended up buying 3 and 4 USB’s for Rs 500 from the guy.

The problem is that the USB dosent work properly. You can transfer data upto 11GB and more than that the transfer hangs. There is also problem recovering data from the USB. If you stop the transfer the USB renames itself into some symbols and all the files and folders also get corrupt and has strange file names.

We are trying to find out a solution to this as lots of my friends bought the same. The guy usuallly approaches Offices and Malls and says the same thing. So next time somebody comes to you! Guys Beware. DO not BUY!

Note: Upto 4GB the USB seems to work fine. I’ll update more here on the status!

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday in its online edition that Google Inc is preparing a service that would enable users to store data from their personal hard drives on its computers.

This would let users store their personnel files,mp3′s and other stuff online which can be accessed from other anywhere over the internet.

The service could be released as soon as a few months from now, the Journal said, citing a source. The newspaper also said Google plans to provide some free storage, with additional storage allotments avaiable for a fee.

Though Google spokeswoman declined to comment on any specific online storage plans beyond what it already offers as part of its email and other services. So we will have to wait and see whether this news seems to have any element of truth.

There are script available which let you convert your Gmail into a Virtual Disk. Search in google for the same.

If you have read the Title properly and wondering if it’s true. Well hell YEA!!! soon in india we can retain the same number even if we change places or move to other networks. Cool isnt it?

No more burden of letting your friends know of your new number? no more missing out calls from people whom you failed to communicate of a number change.

The number portability for mobile services will be introduced by the end of the fourth Quarter in India. This means if you are unhappy with your mobile service provider but have been unable to shift to another because it would mean changing your number, you will be able to switch while retaining the same number.

Full number portability allows users to retain their telephone numbers not just when they change service providers. They can also retain the number when they are switching service types — say, from mobile to fixed line — or when changing locations — say, from Delhi to Mumbai or vice versa. The portability envisaged by Raja (telecom Minister), however, will only allow wireless number portability.

This will be first Introduced in Indias Four metros and the rest of the India in Phases. This would be a great feature for People on the move.

Some doubts that arises

I used a number in Kerala and moved over to karnataka and i retained the same number. When people from Karnataka calls me up? will they be charged for a STD call?? and vice versa?

What would be my roaming rates in this case? Will it shoot up?

How long will it take for the Transformation to take place. Like i moved to a new place and decided to change to local network. In how many days will i get my old number moved to a local mobile service provider?

With time i guess i’ll have answers to these questions? if someone has…..shoot a comment
