Problems with Dell Laptop – Customer care experience Bangalore

Its been quite long since ive been off from this blog and i never blogged on this after i got my dell inspiron 1545.

Background

I got my Dell inspiron 1545 on May last before i moved back to bangalore to start my MBA life.I was pretty proud to have a dell (coz of the many reviews). I could find a lot of people in my MBA class having dell inspirons and studio.

The Present

i first saw the problem with a friends laptop. Where everything was fine till the login and after the login it get’s stuck at the welcome screen. Three weeks back i got up in the morning to find a internal hard disk error on the screen. I switched off and on again it seemed normal and the same thing happened as it got stuck in the welcome screen. I called my friend and asked for a solution and he said he went to a outside service center and reinstalled windows vista. I tried to install the same by putting my Dell Windows Vista re-installation cd, but it gave me a hard disk error. I dint want to lose the data. I called up Dell customer care, and they confirmed its a hard disk problem and they offered to replace my hard disk. I asked them would they help me with the data backup and they said sorry and i’ll have to do that myself. I searched google for data recovery in bangalore and came across web nirnaya. The place is in Jayanagar and at the expense of Rs 1400 (650 for re-installation + Rs 750 for data backup) i could get my system to work again.

The dell guys called me 4 days after and since i was through with my issue i said to close the call. Two weeks after this i got the same error. Bad lazy me still did not do a backup of the data and was stuck again with dilema. I called the Dell customer care service (bangalore local number) and again explained everything. They identified the error and also asked my Optical drive is working fine. I said im also having problems with it. They offered to replace both as both came under warrenty.

This time the customer service was quick and i got a call that day itself after 2 hours and confirmed that the Dell service executive will come the very next day. The next day the service guy was right on time, he was very friendly. I got my hard disk and optical drive replaced and the issue was resolved in an hours time with re-installation of Windows Vista.

In short Problem i have with my laptop and resolutions

  • Hard Disk problem – resolved free of cost
  • Optical drive – making noise and cd scratch – problem resolved with replacement free of cost.
  • Missing “ALT Key” – un-resolved as i would have to replace my keyboard fully and it does come only under full warranty which is about 7k. The cost of keyboard is around Rs 2.3K+
  • Broken side panel near to the mike. – un resolved.
    The side panels are so think and weak and any pressure applied on them, it would break. This is one common problem with dell inspirons and the side panel replacement comes at a cost of over Rs 1200.

Dell in short has a great customer service, but almost a major chunk of the people i know with inspirons are having my similar problems with additional battery and motherboard problems also. I really would love to see dell offering databack up also, as its a pain when ur dell crashes without any warning and the huge amounts companies charge to get back ur data ( i got my data retrieved for the second time from web nirnaya for Rs 400 which is cheap).

      i kno how it feels like wen our babies bitch on us at hard times…coz presentations,maintain contacts n after all work……Dell has to improve their tech support..i own dell studio and it has a customizable skin but since i had joined for mba i thought of ordering a normal blue skin than goin for a hippy trippy one….but it popped out ‘no offence’ intended
      i jus calld the 1800 no n there was this weirdo whose accent i culdnt understand………n only shit he knew was total cover warranty
      i had a problem with som software i had to tell him abt the msconfig commands registry n shit………….i was too pissed coz this guy had told me to take a pic of the affectd area mail then check then mail…..but lucky u there are contact centres in bengaluru….but in kerala this engineers has to be at our place ……and they r not giving a tech support……..n sucks as i hav spend 50k on this piece of cake

      @nifin – the problem is that a majority of them try to speak in Hindi..and i feel a lot of south indians would find it hard to understand it..if especially from kerala and tamil nadu…

      What exactly was ur problem?

      beforre 1 month ago my laptap DVD witer problem so mane jahase liya tha waha bataya to unhone bataya ki dell ke engineer ayenge aur sudharkar jayenge, to maine 12 din wahapar rakha, aus reapring ke bad ghar laya pata chala firse kam nahi kar raha hai,
      so maine dell customer care me dt 17/3/2010 ko Mr. Ajay Sing se bat kiya to pata chala laptop ki purchase US ki hai, unhone bataya ki aapne jahase liya wahapar bat karo aur waranty indiame converd karo, so maine waha par phir bataya to kah rahe hai 1-2 din me karwa dete hai
      so dell se meri requist hai ki mera laptop thik karade, aur muze extra warnty de

      check if u have International warrenty, you can get into Indian service contract(AMC) by paying additional amount.

      my laptop is dell inspiron 1464.now i had a problem with the display.i have called the dellcustomer care.they said that their representative will be coming my house to replace the required part.my service tag is 3N345BS & they have given me a new service tag i.e,780503645603 in case if the representative not comes to me, i heve to cell to dell cc & to say this new tag.i have called again & said the new tag but ther’s no help.could you pls solve my problem

      my daughter has purchased an inspiration 15 inch lap top 2-3 months back now it is having booting problem. When it is switch on it is showing resuming window but unable to boot for hours togather.kindly intemate.what to do

      Mr Panigrahi…which place do you belong to? Call the Dell customer care support center for further help.

      You can also try pressing F8 before loading OS (i assume it would be windows 7 since its purchased 3 months back) and get into safe mode or try the best configuration that worked last.

Now i am facing some problems in CD eject button , speaker sound , bluetooth etc.How can I solve this .If I complain to the service center , the persons may come home for service or I have to carry that to service center.

      I got a new dell inspiron 14R laptop.

      Day 1:
      I installed OS and got to know USB ports are not working. Bluetooth too was not working. I did not raise it as i was not using it.
      “Mother board got replaced.”

      Next after few months hard disk corrupted. “hard disk replaced”
      Then battery stopped its working. As before bluetooth was not working. So, i asked replacement.

      Took around 12-15 days just to pick up a faulty system. Got my new laptop yesterday. I was so happy that there will not be any problem. But for my surprise no driver is installing properly. Display resolution is not proper. Its looking wierd. Wireless and bluetooth drivers are not installing. Am seriously sick of this and am facing hell loads of problem without system as i’m a student. I seriously tell everyone not to buy so called DELL laptops.

      I wonder how a new laptop can have these many problems in its warranty period.
