Kalamassery – Where in Live in Cochin Kerala

As everyone know im a Proud Mallu!! and i hail from Kalamassery Cochin. Kalamassery is the place where ive been brought up and where i have spend 95% of my life. It’s pretty sweet for me as anyone i love the place where my roots are. I go back home once in a month!

I just thought i’ll just scrap about my place. I dont claim it to be the geographically correct details. It’s just some look through into Kalamassery from my point of view.

Kalamassery is basically divided into 3 parts(Bus stops) basically 

  • South Kalamassery – where the kalamassery Muncipality functions
  • HMT - you can take this as the central part, Where HMT Factory functions
  • North Kalamassery – it’s more commercial

Kalamassery is regarded as a Industrial Hub of  with south kalamassery having an industrial development plot and so many small and big industries functioning here. It’s regarded somewhat polluted because of the amount of chemical wastes that been discarded from Chemical factories in and around the Manjumal area.

Some of the Major factories in kalamassery are:

  • FACT
  • HMT
  • Appolo Tyres (previously Premier Tyres)
  • IRE
  • TCC

It’s also the Hub of education with schools, universities, colleges, kintergardens and just about anything.

The major schools in and around Kalamassery

  • Rajagiri Public School (CBSE)- yay im from RPS
  • Rajagiri High School(Kerala State Syllabus) – it was boys only and some years back the fathers decided to make it co-ed.
  • St Joseph’s EMHS(State) – Majority chunk of the students are girls here!
  • Udyogamandal aka UDL (ICSE Syllabus)
  • FACT school
  • Kalamassery Govt School

Colleges in Kalamassery

  • Rajagiri College of Social Sciences
  • Model Engineering College – My college. I did my engineering here.
  • SCMS – Management College

Universities

  • Cochin University of Science and Technology – My university
    it’s a beautiful and big campus

Eat outs in Kalamassery
There are not many kewl eat outs in kalamassery. Kalamassery if famous for it’s Shakes. Populary Know as Kalamassery Shakes(the name given by MEC’ians). You can get Kalamassery shake from Fruits Stall in North Kalamassery (Near SBI atm ). It’s Cheap and worth the money you pay!

  • Zaina Bakery
  • Mezban Hotel
  • Near mezban there is Vegeterian Hotel to(i’ll update the name in my next go)
  • Hotel City Tower
  • Hotel Blue Moon

Supermarkets

  • Varkeys (Reliance fresh will take over?)
  • Margin free (in south and north kalamassery)
  • Fab Mall Kalamassery

Kalamassery also has Places of worship for all religions. It does have some B class Movie Theatres and a Railway Station.  There is also a Kerala history Museum in Pathadipalam kalamassery.  A new railway over bridge also came up in south kalamassery fulfilling the dreams of many people. It does also have one TOWN hall owned by kalamassery municipality.

  • Mather Nagar

Near by Places: Aluva, Kaloor, Ernakulam
