Should Orkut be banned?
Orkut India’s most popular social networking site is always in the news for somenon sense or the other. It’s mainly either due to the fake profiles or due to hate related communties.
As far as ive heard Orkut.com is managed by 9 people(im not so sure with this information) and the amount of users in billions it’s virtually impossible to screen all profiles and communities.
Concern 1 : Fake profiles
Fake profiles have been hitting the news for sometime now. Girls who put up their pics end up having another profile with the same details and display picture , from this profile now starts the flow of Filthy messages,joining sleeze communities, dirty talks and just runining the impression. Same happens with guys when their profile getz CLONED and someone else sees the Cloned profile with community and friends list all related to sex, What can i say! his Image is brought down.
Only solution for this is brining on a website for having a Identity for each and every netuser. So during the sign up process in each site memebers can enter their Identity profile code or key and then their identity getz validated and which refrains people from creating fraud or cloned profiles.
Concern 2 : Hate / Racisit Communities
There are lots of Fan as well as I hate communties in orkut. As far as the power of freedom expression is concerend you cant stop people from expressing their intrest and that to in a social networking site(it’s all abt intrests- you meet the ones with your intrest). Even orkut as provided with a link report community as Bogus!. So as far as from the part of orkut what they have done is Justifiable.
The problem now has been raising some concerns in Mumbai,India is the I Hate ZBal thakere community. Bal thakere a religious leader and a famous politician who leads the shiv sena in maharashtra has been defamed in orkut. Orkut is right now investigating on this issue. Shiv Sainiks has attacked cyber cafes(what did cafes do – it’s hosted in orkut) and asked them to ban orkut.com.
If one community is banned it dosent take much time for another community to sprout up!.
The only thing that can be done is putting on hold those communties being created with keywords hate/ racisim etc in their title,description etc and then validating them and approving the community.
Concern 3 : Sex and Crime
I guess half the people may not have seen the dark side of orkut. Just try searching for sex in orkut. You will be surprised to see the amount of Nudity and sex related communties that have come up in orkut. Certain profiles are so disgusting that you just dont even feel like visiting the site back again. The Albums of these profiles are even much more worse. Lesbian Communities, gay communties, Call girls communties, Gigolos, Desperate house wifes, sex stories what say u name it everything you have in orkut. The Major concern is that lotsa young peepz are in orkut and it’s easy for their mind to get dirty and run into trouble.
Crime Concern : Remember the rave party that got busted in pune?? around 200 young people where caught there. The party was organised / Initiated through orkut. Orkut has turned out to be an easy source of people who are in lookout for drugs. The can easily hookup with agents and get their ‘”maal delivered” or collected.
In the name of Love: Ive seen lots people turning from single to committed and hanging out their so called girl friends. These relations in majority are just for sex or self pleasure and stops once the pleasure is achieved.Once done the hunt for new relationship is on. Certain relationships ends in even death(TCS girl got murdered by a naval guy).
and now the final question should orkut be banned?? I’ll leave that for you people to think over!.
I personnely love orkut and uses it daily and have made some great friends there! and being a webmaster i know how hard is to manage communties when they just mutliply fast.

& infact warns them.. many many times…. but still
those people are there…. so…. i think people’s profile
should be banned on the spot….. then it will shut the
such bad activities…. thanks for taking this into lime light..
