With LCD i heard black takes more energy and it's actually wasting more energy there. I heard google is just trying to Popularise Blackle because each and every search done there pays them. Modern LCD-TFT Technology works different. The Backlight is always on, to display "black" the screen blocks the light but doesnt save any power.
